Magic Johnson firmly established himself as one of the greatest players in NBA history during his iconic 13-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers. The 6-foot-9 guard’s Hall of Fame career includes 12 All-Star appearances, 10 All-NBA call-ups, four assists titles, three MVP trophies and five NBA championships, to name a few.

Since his retirement in 1996, Johnson has transitioned into entrepreneurship. The 66-year-old has built quite an empire through the years. According to Forbes, Johnson’s net worth is currently estimated at $1.5 billion.

One of Johnson’s companies is JLC Infrastructure, which he established in 2015. According to the company’s website, it is “an investor and asset management firm focused on the transportation, communications, energy, utilities and social infrastructure sectors in the United States.”

On Thursday, Johnson shared some big news about JLC Infrastructure and its partnership with The Port of Los Angeles. Johnson is forming a new company to spearhead the development and operations of a new cruise terminal in L.A.

“My business partner Jim Reynolds and I are excited that our company JLC infrastructure is partnering with Carrix, Inc. to form Pacific Cruise Terminals and become the new developer and operator of the future Outer Harbor cruise terminal at the Port of Los Angeles. I’m so happy to be part of a project so beautiful and state-of-the-art!” Johnson posted on Instagram.

Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka announced the news, underscoring the scale of this major project. This move signals a modernization push for one of the world's busiest ports, as the Port of Los Angeles seeks to compete more aggressively with other West Coast hubs.

For Johnson, this latest large-scale infrastructure and logistics project further expands the NBA icon’s business footprint outside basketball. Johnson is a major player in the public-private partnership space in Los Angeles, and this new project is a clear testament to that.

Johnson is a living example of redefining one's legacy after a successful professional sports career. While his achievements on the basketball court are unquestioned, Johnson has also built an equally impressive resume as an entrepreneur.
