Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson was one of many people who paid tribute to actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner this Monday.
It was sadly reported that Warner drowned at a beach in Costa Rica. According to the authorities, he was swimming at Playa Cocles in Limon when the current pulled him in. Although his body was rescued by people on the beach, they couldn't detect any vital signs. He was 54 years old.
Warner was best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on "The Cosby Show." In 1986, he received an Emmy nomination for supporting actor in a comedy series.
Shortly after Warner's death was confirmed, Magic Johnson went on social media to offer his condolences.
"Cookie and I are sad to hear about the passing of our dear friend Malcolm-Jamal Warner. We were both super fans of the hit Cosby Show and continued to follow his career on shows like Malcolm and Eddie and The Resident. Every time I ran into Malcolm, we would have deep and fun conversations about basketball, life, and business. He will truly be missed," Johnson wrote on X. "Cookie and I are praying his family and close friends during this difficult time."
Johnson wasn't the only notable figure who posted a heartfelt message about Warner this afternoon.
"My heart is heavy right now," comedian Eddie Griffin wrote on Instagram. "Rest easy my brother for you have Won in life and now you have won forever eternal bliss."
One of Warner's former co-stars, Tracee Ellis Ross, also released a statement on this matter.
"First I met you as Theo with the rest of the world then you were my first TV husband," Ross said. "My heart is so so sad. What an actor and friend you were: warm, gentle, present, kind, thoughtful, deep, funny, elegant."
Our thoughts are with Warner's loved ones.
