Friday night was a challenging evening for the Boston Celtics as they faced a rabid Kia Center in Orlando, Fla., with Orlando Magic faithful hoping to inspire the hometown squad from going down 0-3 to defending champs in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
The Magic held their homecourt with explosive performances from Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero, who led the team with 32 and 29 points, respectively.
The Magic also stepped up their defensive effort in the third quarter, holding the Celtics to a season-low 11 points. Even with returning superstar Jayson Tatum into the lineup coming off a wrist injury and scoring a game-high 36 points, they fell to the Magic 95-93.
Boston accounted for 19 turnovers, 13 from Jaylen Brown and Tatum combined, and an uncharacteristic night from beyond the arc, going 9 for 27.
In the post-game presser after Game 3, Brown expressed his frustration with what he saw as excessive physicality on both ends of the court Friday night.
“There might be a fight break out or something,” Brown said after the loss. “Because it’s starting to feel like it’s not even basketball, and the refs are not controlling the environment. So, it is what it is."
“If you want to fight it out, we can do that. We can fight to see who goes to the second round.”
In Sunday morning shoot around, Cole Anthony was asked what he thought about Jaylen Brown’s seemingly veiled threat after Game 3 Friday night.
“I’mma keep it a buck gang, I don’t even really care. We’re all here to hoop.” Anthony said that it is a physical series: “Love it. We don’t play a non-contact game. We play a physical game. This is a contact sport. You’ve got to be ready to get touched.”
Asked #Magic guard Cole Anthony for his reaction to Jaylen Brown’s comments the Orlando-Boston playoff series is starting to not look like basketball: “I’mma keep it a buck gang, I don’t even really care. We’re all here to hoop.”

The Magic have been physically demanding on the defensive side of the ball all season long, disrupting opponents’ rhythms and limiting second-chance opportunities. There has already been budding friction within this series that could come to a head should The C’s match Orlando’s energy.
The Magic look to even the series in Game 4 against the Celtics on Sunday at 7 p.m.
