Malik Beasley has joined the conversation for the New York Knicks’ final roster spot, but there’s a catch. Read on for the latest on Beasley’s situation with the Knicks. Will he clinch the spot, or will it go to someone else? Only time will tell.

The Latest on the Final Roster Spot

Malik Beasley has joined the conversation for the New York Knicks’ final roster spot. The Knicks still have room to sign one more player to a veteran-minimum contract. The Knicks most recently signed Jordan Clarkson, but might be seeking additional depth in the backcourt. Beasley, 28, spent last season with the Detroit Pistons. Beasley’s current status is that of a free agent guard after being linked to a federal gambling investigation.

The 28-year-old was initially found to no longer be a target in the investigation until recently. NBACentral posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday. NBACentral’s post read, “Malik Beasley is still under investigation in the gambling probe and could still face charges, per Front Office Sports.”

“Malik Beasley isn’t fully in the clear from the federal gambling investigation—though he’s no longer considered a “target” in the Eastern District of New York’s probe, he remains a “subject,” meaning his conduct is still under review and charges are possible, something his lawyers have acknowledged.”

Malik Beasley’s Overall Outlook

Malik Beasley’s outlook appears to be at a standstill. Beasley averaged 16.3 points, 2.6 assists, and 1.7 assists per game, while shooting 43% from the field and 41.6% from the 3-point line, in 82 games played during 2024-25. Beasley’s most recent stats have been overshadowed by the federal gambling investigation. Beasley could still be charged by the U.S. District Attorney’s office over allegations of gambling on NBA games and prop bets. The Florida State men’s basketball alum also could still face punishment from the NBA.

Final Thoughts

Malik Beasley isn’t fully cleared in the federal gambling investigation at the time of writing. The presumption of innocence is a fundamental legal principle that applies to all individuals accused of a crime, including Beasley, but the in-depth reporting on Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier has been missed by many.

Beasley can escape without being charged with any crimes. However, there’s a chance that the Georgia native can be charged and potentially arrested. Either way, Beasley’s NBA career can come to a halt, remaining as a free agent for a long time or considering retirement in the near future.
