NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is currently dealing with the blatant tanking this season, but he also needs to sort out other issues. And one of those things is the league’s expansion from 30 to 32 teams in 2028.

Two teams are often mentioned in the expansion talks – Seattle and Las Vegas. While Vegas gets the most hype, Seattle is just trying to bring back the SuperSonics to its city. They already have a state-of-the-art arena that could be used once they are awarded a team again.

But how about Las Vegas? According to a report, they already have one as well.

“The ‘Las Vegas Diamond Arena’ is being proposed as a potential arena development for a future NBA expansion team in 2028,” Evan Sidery stated on X via a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“The Las Vegas Diamond Arena would have a capacity over 21,000 and be built on the south end of the Strip near the A’s new MLB stadium,” Sidery added.

Would an NBA team in Las Vegas attract fans? Adam Silver is surely banking on it. The city is the gambling capital of the United States, hence boosting the league’s revenue. Plus, Vegas also has a WNBA team, the Aces.

Las Vegas and Seattle are not a lock for the NBA’s Expansion

While Vegas and Seattle are the frontrunners for the NBA’s expansion, there’s a chance both won’t get a team. According to a report from Howard Beck, should another city present a much more lucrative offer, Adam Silver might shift his focus to the selection process.

“One more twist, per sources, albeit a speculative one: If another city with NBA aspirations were to emerge with a lucrative offer—say, $10 billion or more—it’s conceivable the league could turn away from Seattle or Vegas. Because, again, this is ultimately all driven by money,” per Howard Beck.

That’s a stunning new revelation. Other cities often mentioned as good prospects to host an NBA team include Nashville, Vancouver, and Mexico City.
