From player relations and organizational communication to business growth and league-wide relationships, executive leadership often determines whether a franchise can withstand inevitable adversity.

The Suns remain under enormous pressure after aggressive roster moves and heightened championship expectations. Extending Bartelstein doesn’t erase those expectations, but it removes uncertainty in one of the organization’s most important positions. Instead of another leadership search, Phoenix now has continuity. That’s also a vote of confidence from ownership. By extending him now, he’s reinforcing that he still believes the franchise is moving in the right direction despite the scrutiny that accompanies every decision.
