Klay Thompson was forced to sit out the Dallas Mavericks’ 111-105 win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday. The five-time All-Star was unable to suit up due to an illness, marking his first missed game of the season.
Despite Thompson’s absence, the Mavs were able to snap their four-game losing streak with a much-needed win over the Wizards. Naji Marshall led the way for Dallas, dropping 30 points off the bench to carry his team to victory.
The Mavs are back in action on Monday to face Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. The team has released its injury report for the game, and there’s a significant development involving Thompson.
Thompson has come off the bench in his last two games for the Mavs. Head coach Jason Kidd decided to make the move to allow rookie Cooper Flagg to take on his more familiar role at small forward.
Life off the bench has not been great for Thompson. In his last game, the four-time NBA champion shooting guard registered zero points on 0-of-6 shooting (0-of-5 from beyond the arc), one rebound, three assists and a steal in 17 minutes of action.
The silver lining for Thompson is that he is now expected to return to the court. The 35-year-old was not included in the Mavs’ official injury report on Sunday night, which means that he will be back in action on Monday against the Bucks.
It is worth noting, however, that Anthony Davis, who has missed the last five games, remains questionable due to a left calf strain. Daniel Gafford (right ankle sprain) is also questionable, while Dereck Lively II (right knee sprain) is doubtful, potentially leaving Dallas’ frontcourt extremely undermanned.
Thompson and the Mavs head into Monday’s game with a 3-7 record. They will host the Bucks at American Airlines Center, with tip-off scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET.
