The Dallas Mavericks continue to navigate a turbulent season marked by injuries to several key stars. Anthony Davis remains sidelined, while Kyrie Irving is recovering from an ACL injury, forcing Dallas to operate without two of its most important offensive engines.
As a result, the Mavericks, who currently own the fourth-worst record in the Western Conference, have been pushed into survival mode, leaning heavily on players like Klay Thompson and rookie Cooper Flagg to keep the team afloat.
That trend continued Monday night when Dallas welcomed the Brooklyn Nets to the American Airlines Center.
The Mavericks snapped a two-game skid and secured a 113-105 victory. Flagg led the way with 27 points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Thompson came off the bench to score 18 points, knocking down six three-pointers.
The win also marked a historic night for Thompson, who continued his ascent on the all-time three-pointers list. With his fifth made three-pointer of the game, the Mavericks announced that Thompson had connected on the 2,800th three-pointer of his NBA career, reaching the milestone at the 8:50 mark of the fourth quarter.
The basket made Thompson just the fifth player in NBA history to reach 2,800 made threes, leaving him five away from passing Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard (2,804) for fourth place on the league’s all-time list.
Klay Thompson knocked down his 2,800th career 3-pointer at the 8:50 mark of the 4th qtr tonight against BKN, becoming the 5th player in NBA history to reach the mark.

Thompson currently trails only former Golden State Warriors teammate Stephen Curry (4,199), Los Angeles Clippers guard James Harden (3,291), retired NBA star Ray Allen (2,973), and Lillard on the NBA’s all-time three-pointers made leaderboard.
Apart from his latest feat, Thompson owns the NBA record for most three-pointers made in a single game (14), achieved in 2018, and is one of only ten players ever to make 300 or more three-pointers in a single season.
Thompson is also responsible for the highest-scoring quarter in NBA history (37 points), a milestone he set against the Sacramento Kings in 2015. That performance was fueled by a 100% field goal statline, including nine three-point makes.
Despite currently shooting the worst three-point percentage of his career (36.7%), Thompson remains one of the most potent long-range shooters when in rhythm.
With Damian Lillard ruled out for the rest of the year due to an Achilles injury, Thompson has a prime opportunity to surpass Lillard’s total and climb further up the all-time list when the Mavericks host the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.
