Mavericks’ Anthony Davis Recovering From Retina Procedure, Expected Back For Camp

Dallas Mavericks star big man Anthony Davis has undergone a procedure to repair a detached retina but is expected to be fully ready for training camp, per a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The timeline for when the injury occurred remains unclear. However, Charania noted that Davis played through “multiple hits to the face” last season, including one that sent him to an eye specialist back in November.

At the time, Davis was still a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. That incident involved a poke to his left eye, which left him with swelling and sensitivity, though it was initially diagnosed as a corneal abrasion and didn’t cause him to miss any games.

Davis, 32, was traded from Los Angeles to Dallas in February as part of the blockbuster deal that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers. He appeared in just nine games for the Mavericks after the trade, limited by an adductor injury.

Despite the small sample size, Davis made an impact. He averaged 20.0 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.2 blocks in 29.6 minutes per game, giving Dallas a glimpse of what could be ahead if he stays healthy.

With the eye issue now addressed and a full offseason to recover and adjust to his new team, the Mavericks are hoping Davis can deliver a full campaign in 2025–26.
