Mavericks Cut Seth Lundy, John Poulakidas

The Mavericks have made a pair of cuts, announcing in a press release that guards Seth Lundy and John Poulakidas have been waived. Lundy was on a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract while Poulakidas held one of Dallas’ three two-way deals.

Lundy, the 46th overall pick in the 2023 draft, was on two-way deals with the Hawks and Clippers for most of his first two NBA seasons but appeared in just nine regular season games during that time as he battled left ankle problems. He averaged 5.5 points in 11.7 minutes per game while appearing in all four of Dallas’ preseason games this month and appears likely to end up with the Texas Legends, the Mavs’ G League affiliate.

Poulakidas signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Mavs back in March and played in 13 games down the stretch, averaging 8.8 PPG and 2.3 RPG in 19.5 MPG while making 40.3% of his three-point attempts. He was also solid during the preseason, scoring 21 points in 41 minutes across three games while making 5-of-11 threes, but the club has decided to go in a different direction with that two-way slot.

Although the Mavs now have 18 players under contract, they’re not in compliance with the NBA’s roster rules yet, since they have 16 on standard deals and just a pair on two-way contracts.

They still need to decide whether or not they’re keeping Dwight Powell, whose minimum-salary contract is only partially guaranteed for $1MM. If Powell is retained, a player with a fully guaranteed salary will need to be traded or waived on or before Monday’s regular season roster deadline.
