The NBA world was in utter disbelief when the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in early February. GM Nico Harrison has caught a lot of flak for the blockbuster deal considering Luka was their franchise player who just took them to the NBA Finals less than a year ago.
Well, the Slovenian will have his chance for a signature revenge game on Wednesday evening as he returns to Dallas for the first time since the trade. There’s tons of fans who are still furious with Harrison for parting ways with a beloved figure and one fan said he plans to wear a”NICO SUCKS” shirt at the game.
Via ESPN:
“Unlike many fans, Williams won’t wear one of those jerseys to Wednesday’s game. Nor will he wear the T-shirt he recently purchased that looks like Doncic’s Lakers jersey but has “LUKARS” across the chest.
Instead, Williams plans to wear a green T-shirt with a blunt message — “NICO SUCKS” — expressed in blue letters on the front. He’s well-aware that arena security has ejected fans for wearing similar T-shirts, classifying them as violations of the NBA’s fan code of conduct.”
“I think it’ll be too overwhelming for them to kick people out, but if they decide to do it, that’ll be my first time getting kicked out in [45] years of going to games,” Williams said. “So I’ll gladly wear that one with pride.”
Jeremy Williams has been a season-ticket holder since 2001 and will make a point of standing out with his shirt on Wednesday evening. I mean, everything has gone downhill since the Mavericks traded Doncic. Kyrie Irving tore his ACL, Anthony Davis suffered an injury in his debut, and Dallas was dealt several other injuries.
Obviously we can’t determine a winner of this trade quite yet, but unless the Mavericks win numerous titles with AD, fans will continue to bash Harrison with hate for being the decision-maker behind shipping Luka off to LA.
