The Dallas Mavericks have been ravaged by the injury bug this season, with the latest player falling victim to it being star point guard Kyrie Irving. However, for the first time in a while, the team got some good news on the injury front regarding Caleb Martin, who they acquired at the trade deadline in a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers.
With Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford, and Dereck Lively II all already dealing with injuries, the Mavs lost Irving to a torn ACL in their 122-98 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Monday. In the wake of the crushing injury, Irving shared his thoughts during an Instagram Live video.
"It hasn't been 48 hours since I tore my ACL but the recovery process already started mentally, spiritually, emotionally. So just wanted to let you guys know that I'm okay and I will be okay moving forward. It does suck a lot. I ain't gonna lie to you guys. This one stings for sure," Irving said.
With Irving and fellow guard Jaden Hardy, who suffered a sprained ankle in the same game against the Kings, out for the time being, Dallas is running out of healthy bodies. They did get some positive news, though, as Martin is set to make his return from a hip injury and take the court for his new team when they take on the Memphis Grizzlies.
"Caleb Martin, I’m told, is on course to return from his hip injury and make his Mavericks debut tonight against Memphis … just over a month after Dallas acquired Martin from Philadelphia in trade headlined by Quentin Grimes," Marc Stein reported in a post on X.
