Mavericks' Luka Doncic joins elite group in loss to 76ers

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic joined an elite list on Sunday, albeit in a loss.

In a 120-116 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, Doncic recorded his third consecutive 30-point triple-double, joining Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan and Russell Westbrook as the players in NBA history to accomplish the feat.

Doncic only trails Robertson (four) and Westbrook (five) for the most 30-point triple-doubles in a row. Meanwhile, with 41 for his career, Doncic trails only Westbrook (48) and Roberston (106) for the all-time lead.

In Sunday's loss, Doncic posted game-highs in points (38), rebounds (11) and assists (10), piling on to a recent hot streak. Along with his insane three-game stretch, Doncic has virtually averaged a triple-double over the last six games, posting 37.3 points, 11.3 assists and 9.6 rebounds since Feb. 22.

Doncic has played out of his mind as of late, but it hasn't translated into wins for the Mavericks.

Following the loss to the Sixers, Dallas is just 2-4 over its last six games and has lost two of Doncic's three triple-double outings. Losers of two in a row, the Mavericks have fallen to 34-27, only a game and a half ahead of the 10th-seeded Los Angeles Lakers (33-29).

Meanwhile, the 76ers are in much better shape as they look to stay above water without reigning MVP Joel Embiid. Philly has now won two in a row, improving to 35-25. They're tied with the New York Knicks for fourth place in the Eastern Conference, trailing the Milwaukee Bucks (40-21) by four and a half games.
