The Dallas Mavericks entered Saturday night’s road game against the Los Angeles Clippers still reeling after suffering their third straight defeat, a 129-119 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, and desperate to snap the skid. Coming into the game, Dallas was severely shorthanded: key players including Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington were all ruled out.
With their rotation depleted, the Mavericks turned to rookie Cooper Flagg to shoulder a heavy burden. Thrown into a leading role, Flagg responded and spectacularly so.
Flagg delivered a breakout performance, putting up a career-high 35 points (13-of-22 from the field), along with eight rebounds and two assists in 38 minutes, as Dallas edged out the Clippers 114-110.
Over the course of the game, Flagg set the tone. He scored 12 points in the first nine minutes of the game, and by halftime already had 21, giving the Mavericks a much-needed spark offensively.
In the second half, Flagg maintained his aggressiveness – attacking the rim, getting to the free throw line, and making clutch plays down the stretch. With just under two minutes remaining and the game hanging in the balance, he calmly sank key free throws to give Dallas a three-point lead.
With that performance, Flagg carved his name into the record books, a feat which the Mavericks celebrated on social media. At just 18 years and 343 days old, he became the youngest player in NBA history to score 30 or more points in a regulation-length game – and only the second-youngest ever to score 30 or more in a full game, trailing LeBron James who achieved this feat in a double overtime matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies in his rookie season.
This historic feat came just one night after he became the youngest player ever to record 10 or more assists in a game during the loss to the Lakers.

Flagg entered the league as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft, widely viewed as the next cornerstone for Dallas after the franchise parted ways with former star Luka Doncic. The weight of expectation on his young shoulders has been immense – but performances like Saturday night’s suggest he may be more than prepared to grow into that role.
The win improves the Mavericks to 6-15 on the season. Dallas will now seek to make it two consecutive wins when they face a tough road test against the Denver Nuggets on Monday.
