The Dallas Mavericks are embracing a fresh start, with Cooper Flagg being the crown jewel of the team and Masai Ujiri now the president of basketball operations for the franchise. And with a fresh start comes a fresh jersey numbers for both Max Christie and Naji Marshall.

As per Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News, Christie will be switching up his number from #00 to #0, the number that was vacated by the departure of Dante Exum in the trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards. Marshall also took advantage of the Davis trade, as he changed his number from #13 to #3, which was Davis’ number during his short-lived tenure with the Mavs.

Of the two, Christie is the one with the more assured future with the Mavericks. He was one of the main pieces that came over from the Los Angeles Lakers in the ill-fated trade that sent Luka Doncic to the West Coast, and at just 23 years of age, he has plenty of room to grow as a player.

Last season, Christie averaged 12.3 points across 77 games (68 starts), and he was brilliant from beyond the arc, drilling over two threes a night on an above-average 40.4 percent clip. He is emerging as one of the best young 3-and-D players in the association, and any team with winning aspirations would want a player of his ilk.

Meanwhile, as much as the 28-year-old Marshall is a valued member of this Mavericks team, he could find himself back on the trade block any time now. There were plenty of teams that expressed interest in trading for Marshall, including the reigning champion New York Knicks, and considering how he’s in the final year of his deal, the Mavs may want to explore what they can get for him on the trade market.

Marshall put up 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists last season, and he could fetch a pretty penny should the Mavs make him available for trade.
