Mavericks, P.J. Washington agree to four-year extension

Mavericks forward P.J. Washington has agreed to a four-year, $90 million extension that runs through 2029-30, his agent Kevin Bradbury told ESPN.

Washington became extension-eligible late last month, and Marc Stein of The Stein Line had already reported in August that a deal was expected.

Washington, who just turned 27, has given Dallas plenty of reasons to commit long-term. He averaged 14.7 points, a career-best 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 blocks last season while shooting 38 percent from three.

He also started 57 games and played a big role in the Mavs’ 2024 Finals run, including clutch moments against Oklahoma City in the West semis that year.

Dallas already has a crowded frontcourt with No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford and even Dwight Powell. Forwards Naji Marshall and Caleb Martin are in the mix, too.

But it’s clear now that Washington is not being pushed out. GM Nico Harrison has called him a long-term fit, and this deal will make it official.
