Mavericks reportedly finalizing extension with Dorian Finney-Smith

The big move of trade deadline day for the Dallas Mavericks was a trade that sent Kristaps Porzingis to the Washington Wizards, but the team made another move to shore up its future by working out an extension with forward Dorian Finney-Smith.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the extension will be worth $52 million over four years.

Finney-Smith, 28, signed with the Mavericks shortly after going undrafted in 2016 and has been a full-time starter for the team since 2019. He's averaging career highs in minutes (32.5), points (10.1), and assists (2.0) this season.

In the deal that sent Porzingis to Washington, the Mavericks acquired guard Spencer Dinwiddie and forward Dāvis Bertāns. Dinwiddie averaged 12.6 points and 5.8 assists in 44 games with the Wizards, who he joined in August 2021 as part of the five-team trade that sent Russell Westbrook to the Los Angeles Lakers. Bertāns is averaging just 5.7 points and 14.7 minutes so far this season.

Finney-Smith was set to become a free agent in the 2022 offseason before the extension that is set to keep him in Dallas until 2026.
