Mavericks traveling for Wednesday game at Hornets after COVID issues

In what's been a rarity this week, Tuesday provided some positive news as it pertains to an NBA team dealing with COVID-19 issues.

Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press and Marc Stein of the New York Times confirmed on Tuesday that members of the Dallas Mavericks are traveling for Wednesday's game at the Charlotte Hornets, which remains on, as scheduled, as of the posting of this piece.

Dallas' matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans set for Monday was scrapped because the Mavericks couldn't meet the league minimum for the number of healthy players available to compete, which has been set at eight.

According to an ESPN story shared on Monday, four Dallas players had COVID-19 at that time, and another five entered the league's health and safety protocol. However, Stein tweeted that 12 Dallas players completed the trip to Charlotte.

The Mavs improved to 5-4 on the season with a 112-98 win over the Orlando Magic last Saturday. Charlotte, meanwhile, is 6-5 on the season following a 109-88 victory over the New York Knicks on Monday.

The NBA is currently staring at a potential COVID-19 crisis, as five games have already been postponed because of coronavirus-related issues since the season started on Dec. 22.
