Mavericks waive Olivier-Maxence Prosper, use stretch provision on contract

The Mavericks are moving on from Olivier-Maxence Prosper.

Dallas will waive the second-year forward and use the stretch provision on his $3 million cap hit, according to multiple reports. That will spread the money across three seasons at about $1 million per year.

The Mavs had reportedly shopped Prosper ahead of Friday’s deadline to use the stretch, but were not willing to attach one of their two remaining second-round picks just to move the contract. By releasing him, they also decline their $5.3 million team option for 2026-27.

The move clears room for Dante Exum, whose minimum deal was agreed to on July 2 but could not be finalized until Dallas opened up space under the league’s second tax apron. Exum now slides in as the 15th standard contract on the roster.

Prosper, 23, was the 24th overall pick in the 2023 draft. He appeared in 92 games across two years with Dallas, averaging 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10 minutes a night.

He also saw time with the Texas Legends in the G League, where he put up strong numbers as a rookie, averaging 18.3 points and 7.8 rebounds on efficient shooting.

The 6-foot-8 forward from Montreal is expected to draw interest as an unrestricted free agent when he clears waivers.
