Mavs May Look to Sign Kyrie Irving to Three- or Four-Year Deal

Irving was acquired from the Nets in a February trade and Dallas went on a season-ending slide shortly thereafter. After reaching the Western Conference finals last season, the Mavs failed to make the play-in tournament this season.

Still, the front office seems to remain confident in the pairing of Irving and fellow star Luka Doncic, and will spend the offseason trying to rebuild around them. That is, if they can re-sign Irving.

“I want him to stay for sure and I think we have a good shot,” Mavs owner Mark Cuban said, via Stein. “I think he’s happy here. He tells me he’s happy here. All I can tell you is everything I thought I knew about Kyrie because of everything I read is 100 percent wrong.”

With or without Irving, an unrestricted free agent, the Mavs are expected to undergo some changes this summer.

‘It’s always dictated on the roster. You got to wait [on] the roster because there’s gonna be a lot of people who aren’t back. There’s going to be new faces,” coach Jason Kidd said, via Stein.

Irving, 31, appeared in 20 games with the Mavs and 60 overall this past season — compiling averages of 27.1 points, 5.5 assists, 5.1 rebounds and shooting 49 percent from the field and 38 percent on 3-pointers.
