The Mavericks intend to explore signing free agent point guard Goran Dragic, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

Dragic, 36, finished last season with the Nets, appearing in 16 regular-season games. He has repeatedly been linked to the Mavs, given his strong bond with star guard Luka Doncic. Dragic and Doncic teamed up to lead Slovenia to the 2017 EuroBasket championship.

Dragic was traded from the Heat to the Raptors last summer as part of the Kyle Lowry deal. Things didn’t go well for him in Toronto, as he appeared in just five games before he and the Raptors started to seek a trade. Eventually, one was found, with the Raptors dealing Dragic to the Spurs in February.

He reached a contract buyout with the Spurs shortly after that, landing with the Nets. It was there that he proved he still had plenty left in the tank, proving to be one of Brooklyn’s most-reliable players in the playoffs.

By most accounts, he is hopeful to sign with the Mavs and join Doncic. So it appears to be a case of the dollars simply making sense for both sides.

The Bucks and Cavaliers are also viewed as possible destinations for Dragic, though there is nothing serious on that front as of today.
