The Memphis Grizzlies have made a ton of moves throughout the 2025 NBA Offseason but got some unexpected news regarding one of their cornerstones. Former Defensive Player of the Year Award winner Jaren Jackson Jr. suffered an injury and will require surgery. Let’s take a deeper dive into all of the details that are known at this time and what this means for the Memphis Grizzlies going forward.

Memphis Grizzlies’ Jaren Jackson Jr. Suffers Injury

Jaren Jackson Jr. has shown to be one of the top players in the league and only 24 hours after signing a five-year, $240 million maximum renegotiation-and-extension, he has suffered a turf toe injury in his right foot and will require a procedure to repair, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. The injury was sustained during an off-site open basketball session and there is no timeline for his return, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

The Memphis Grizzlies star has been one of the key players last season as he averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. Jackson Jr. has also been a strong shooter as he shot 48.8% from the floor, 37.5% from the 3-point line, and 78.1% from the free-throw line. The star power forward has shown the ability to be a key player and at just 25 years old, this is a massive injury. With the Western Conference being loaded and no official timetable for his injury return, this could be a bit of a concern for the team.

Another Memphis Grizzlies big man in Brandon Clarke is recovering from a high-grade PCL sprain in his right knee that ended the season but he did not have it surgically repaired and is expected to be back for the regular season.
