The Miami Heat are reportedly interested in ex-Dallas Mavericks Power Forward Kai Jones and ex-Sacramento Kings Power Forward Trey Lyles. Jones, 24, recently worked out with the Heat, but is an unrestricted free agent, just like Lyles, 29. Read on for the Heat’s current situation.

Miami Heat Interested In Kai Jones, Trey Lyles

According to Grant Afseth of FastbreakJournal.com, the Miami Heat are interested in Lyles and Jones. Lyles and Jones are both unrestricted free agents. Lyles played for the Sacramento Kings last season, while Jones previously played for the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers.

Afseth wrote, “The Miami Heat are believed to be exploring ways to bolster their frontcourt depth before the start of the 2025–26 season. Trey Lyles and Kai Jones are among various players FastbreakJournal.com sources can confirm have drawn interest this summer.”

The Cleveland Cavaliers swept the Heat in the first round of this year’s NBA Playoffs. Heat President Pat Riley has been busy this offseason after trading Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors. Riley, 80, acquired Los Angeles Clippers Guard Norman Powell and re-signed Point Guard Davion Mitchell.

Miami Heat’s Outlook

The Miami Heat’s outlook appears to be a mixed bag. The NBA’s Eastern Conference is currently wide-open. Indiana Pacers Guard Tyrese Haliburton has already been ruled out for the season with a torn right Achilles, and Boston Celtics Forward Jayson Tatum might not play either due to a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Heat Head Coach Erik Spoelstra will likely start Tyler Herro, Norman Powell, Andrew Wiggins, Bam Adebayo, and Kel’el Ware next season. The Heat could be a Play-In team come playoff time.

Final Thoughts

The Miami Heat’s success can be impacted early on. The team’s start to the 2025-26 NBA season is rather brutal. The Heat brought in Powell for overall scoring and veteran experience. While Powell, 32, is coming off one of the best seasons of his NBA career, he may not be able to carry the team on his back. Plus, Powell is in a contract year, so the team must decide whether or not to extend him before the start of 2025-26.
