Another day, another suspension for Jimmy Butler. The Miami Heat announced that they are suspending him without pay effective immediately for an indefinite period to last no fewer than five games.
This suspension is said to be due to Butler's continued pattern of disregard of team rules, engaging in conduct detrimental to the team and intentionally withholding services, which includes walking out of practice earlier today.
This is the third time that Butler has been suspended by the Heat this season. It is an untenable situation and hopefully, the entire saga will come to an end soon.
It is certainly a sad way to go out for one of the best players in franchise history. Where will he end up next? Well, the Phoenix Suns look like his most likely destination.
It is far from a done deal though as the Heat seem to be patiently waiting for the right offer and it looks like Bradley Beal is not going to be part of that.
According to Paul Kasabian of Bleacher Report, Jake Fischer reported the latest for the Stein Line on Saturday: "Sources say Miami is also against acquiring players in exchange for Butler who have significant future money, like Beal, remaining on their contracts. That information has been the most consistent takeaway cited when conferring with NBA personnel about the Heat's trade preferences, on top of how any diligent front office will always seek promising young players, impact veterans and draft capital when trading away a talented player like Butler with numerous All-Star appearances on his résumé and who has proven himself as a playoff performer."
So, it looks like more teams are going to be involved if the Butler to Phoenix trade does work out at some point.
Of course, it is also worth mentioning that Beal has a no-trade clause. So, he holds most of the cards in this situation as well.
There. is clearly a lot of uncertainty around what the future holds for Butler. One thing is for sure though, things cannot continue like they are right now. Something has to give with the trade deadline fast approaching.
