Miami Heat Open to Buying out Terry Rozier if They Can’t Trade Him

The Miami Heat are open to buying out Terry Rozier if they can’t trade him, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Rozier, who remains under federal investigation on a potential gambling probe, will make $26.6 million next season in the final year of his contract.

“Sources say Miami still hopes to part with veteran guard Terry Rozier even though there is said to be scant trade interest in the 31-year-old,” Fischer wrote. “Rozier is scheduled to make $26.6 million this season and the Heat are said to have some interest in buying him out. To be clear, though, no buyout appears imminent.”

Rozier appeared in 64 games for the Heat last season. The veteran guard averaged 10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.2 blocks while shooting 39.1% from the field, 29.5% from beyond the arc and 85.2% from the free-throw line.

The Heat acquired Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets during the 2023-24 season. Rozier has played for the Boston Celtics, Hornets and Heat. He has career averages of 13.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.2 blocks.

The Cleveland Cavaliers swept the Heat in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in four games. Miami president Pat Riley has been busy this offseason. He traded Kyle Anderson and Kevin Love to the Utah Jazz, acquired Norman Powell from the Los Angeles Clippers, traded Duncan Robinson to the Detroit Pistons for Simone Fontecchio, traded Haywood Highsmith to the Brooklyn Nets and re-signed Davion Mitchell.

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra will likely start Tyler Herro, Powell, Andrew Wiggins, Bam Adebayo and Kel’el Ware next season. The East is wide open since Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton has already been ruled out for the season and Celtics forward Jayson Tatum may not play either.
