Miami Heat Reportedly Signing NBA Champion Point Guard
USA TODAY Sports

On Tuesday evening, the Miami Heat will host the Detroit Pistons in Florida.

Before the game, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Heat will likely sign NBA Champion point guard Patty Mills.

The 15-year veteran has played in 14 games for the Atlanta Hawks this season and averaged 2.7 points and 1.1 rebounds per contest while shooting 37.3% from the field and 38.2% from the three-point range.

Via Wojnarowski: "Free agent Patty Mills is planning to sign with the Miami Heat, sources tell ESPN."

Mills was the 55th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft and has also spent time with the Portland Trail Blazers, Brooklyn Nets and San Antonio Spurs.

His career averages are 8.9 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest while shooting 42.5% from the field and 38.9% from the three-point range in 879 regular season games.

He has also appeared in 95 NBA playoff games (11 starts).

At 35, he is no longer in his prime but is still a capable backup point guard.

He averaged 6.2 points and 1.4 assists per contest while shooting 36.6% from the three-point range (last season for Brooklyn).

As for the Heat, they are currently the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference with a 34-26 record in 60 games.

They are 8-2 over their last ten games and most recently beat the Utah Jazz by a score of 126-120.

Following their matchup with the Pistons, the Heat will visit Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday evening in Texas.
