Where were you when LeBron James made “The Decision” in 2010? The landscape of the NBA changed forever when James announced that he would play for the Miami Heat.
It was a power move, if ever there was one.
Heat president Pat Riley also knew how to make one. Even regarding cookies. In a now-infamous story, it was presumed that it was Riley who banned cookies on team flights, which did not sit well with James.
“One thing you don’t do is (mess) with LeBron’s cookies,” said Heat legend Dwyane Wade, who made the revelation on a podcast last year.
James later confirmed it.
Now, former Miami forward Michael Beasley added another layer to it, claiming on “Club Shay Shay” that Heat coach Erik Spoelstra also had a hand in the decision.
“Spo tried to swing his d***, and Riley tried to swing his d****,” said Beasley.
“I’m pretty sure if they had gone to him like a person, a man, it would’ve been maybe a different story. But he (James) personally brings them himself. His chef. That’s the part of the story they’re not telling.”
Like Wade, Beasley felt it sparked the decision of James to leave Miami after just four seasons and return to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“That’s the first time I’ve seen the whole organization scared. From that point on, they tiptoed around him. They knew he was out,” added Beasley, who played one season with James in South Beach.
“They knew he was leaving. Everybody did. Yeah, 100%. If they didn’t know, I knew because everything was different.”
James won back-to-back championships with the Heat. He could have won more and built a longer dynasty, winning not one, not two, not three, not four—you know the rest. But he decided to leave. Miami has never won another title since.
And that’s the way the cookie crumbles.
