Michael Jordan book author calls out NBA legend for 'blatant lie'

The documentary series “The Last Dance” is the most popular among that genre in recent history. It follows Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls during their final run at the NBA title during the 1997-98 season.

As he predicted, Jordan has become a villain of sorts since the doc aired to much fanfare starting last month. In fact, fellow six-time champion Scottie Pippen is said to be angry about how he was portrayed in "The Last Dance."

Now comes this piece of information from Bulls insider and the author of “The Jordan Rules,” Sam Smith. It does not paint Jordan in the best of lights.

“That was a complete and blatant lie by Michael,” Smith said of Jordan wanting to return for the 1998-99 season, via the Bay Area-based 95.7 The Game. “There were several things in the documentary that I saw, I would know, that he made up or he lied about. They weren’t major things, but it was like when a TV movie comes on and they say, ‘this is based on a true story.’ That’s what that was. It was based on a true story.”

Ouch!

This comes on the heels of Jordan indicating he wanted to return for the 1998-99 season, but bad blood between Jordan and Bulls general manager Jerry Krause made that impossible.

Pippen and Smith are not the only ones to call out Jordan since the documentary aired. Former Bulls teammate Horace Grant called him a “snitch.”
