The Greatest of All-Time is getting ready for a new venture in life and it involves the NBA again. On Monday, NBC Universal announced that Michael Jordan will be a special guest contributor for the network’s NBA coverage beginning with the 2025-26 season.
NBC bought the rights to coverage of the NBA last year beginning with next season and has slowly been rolling out the announcements. But Monday’s announcement is by far the biggest as it involves Michael Jordan and his first venture into broadcasting.
Here is how the company announced the news via social media:

During the 90’s the NBA on NBC was the premier event of the week and it often featured Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in the middle of their dynasty run. When you think of the NBA on NBC, you associate it with Jordan and the Bulls, so it’s nice to see him back involved again.
It’s unclear how involved Jordan will be or what the job entails but we should expect to see his analysis during coverage this season.
Jordan ended up retiring three times in his NBA career but the six-time champion called it quits for good following the 2002-03 season with the Washington Wizards. He never pursued broadcasting at all and Chicago sports historian Jack Silverstein revealed why shortly after this news:
MJ never did broadcasting because it impeded his time, his “most valuable asset,” as he told Jack McCallum. This is a monster get for NBC. pic.twitter.com/b4r1RBzK8x

While Jordan wasn’t involved in broadcasting, he still found ways to stay involved with basketball as he owned the Charlotte Hornets franchise before selling it. He also founded 23XI Racing which has a NASCAR Cup Series Team featuring Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick.
Of course, Jordan also still loves the game of Golf as well as noted by his Grove XXIII course down in Florida.
But this is a big step for Jordan into the broadcasting world and a huge surprise for NBA fans.
