NBC Sports announced on May 12 that Chicago Bulls all-time great Michael Jordan will be a special contributor to their NBA broadcast in the fall.
In the announcement from that day, the network said it was thrilled to have the basketball legend occasionally join its team, but someone else wasn’t too excited about the announcement. On Tuesday, during a discussion at the SBJ’s 4se conference in Manhattan, NBA super-agent David Falk made a blunt prediction when asked about his former client joining NBC’s broadcast.
“I’ll be surprised if [Jordan] on three times,” Falk said. “It’s just personal. I haven’t asked him.”
Falk’s comment comes after he formed a well-known relationship with Jordan throughout his professional basketball career. He represented Jordan for his entire NBA career – from his debut in 1984 with the Chicago Bulls until his third and final retirement with the Washington Wizards in 2003. He was responsible for forming a historic partnership between MJ and Nike, which led to the creation of the Air Jordan line in April 1985.
Falk came up with the iconic brand name after watching Jordan fly through the air and throw down slam dunks during games. He also claims he revolutionized the industry because 30 years ago, companies did not “believe African-American team sport players could be national names.”
Despite Falk’s comments on Jordan joining NBC’s broadcast of the sport he once sat at the top of, we will have to see if his former client is cut out for the new role once he begins contributing to their broadcast in the fall.
