The Denver Nuggets suffered a disastrous first-round defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who defeated them in six games despite losing their top three guards to injuries.
In the aftermath of the defeat, two players that the Nuggets discarded in the last season seemed vindicated by their old team's loss. Michael Porter Jr. and Bones Hyland each suggested on social media that the Nuggets might have avoided the upset loss had they not been traded.
Porter was the Nuggets' first-round pick in 2018 and spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Nuggets, winning a championship in 2013. Denver traded him to the Brooklyn Nets last summer, along with a first-round pick, to bring in forward Cameron Johnson. The move saved the Nuggets $35M over this season and next, but was a large offensive downgrade, as Porter went on to average 24.2 PPG for the Nets.
The former Nugget appeared with popular streamer N3on on Friday, one day after the Wolves eliminated his old team with a 110-98 win in which three Nuggets starters combined for just 23 points. When N3on asked Porter if he thought the Nuggets would have won the series if he were still on the team, Porter had a blunt and concise response.
"Yes," Porter replied, adding, "Shouldn't have traded me, man."

Timberwolves guard Bones Hyland was also a first-round pick of the Nuggets, back in 2021. He missed out on the 2023 title when the Nuggets gave up on him after a year and a half, trading him to get backup center Thomas Bryant, who played a total of 29 seconds in the 2023 playoffs.
Hyland eventually landed with the Timberwolves late last season and went on to average 8.5 points and 2.6 assists in 71 games this season. He had 13 points in Minnesota's Game 2 win and sank eight three-pointers in the series. After his new team finished off his old team, Hyland didn't hesitate to take a victory lap on social media.

Sure, Hyland averaged only 7.2 points in the series and as Nuggets fans reminded him in the replies, he requested the trade that sent him out of the Mile High City. The pushback didn't seem to bother him.
Awww, the lil babies mad

It's a rough time for the Nuggets and their fans. Getting heat from the media and other teams' fans is to be expected after a first-round wipeout. Getting heat from their old players has to sting even more.
