Michael Porter Jr. gives blunt assessment of Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers retooled this offseason. 

After losing LeBron James, they brought in several new faces to bolster their efforts to keep up with their competitors in the brutal Western Conference race. 

Having said that, it seems like not a lot of people are too high on their prospect as a title contender. Michael Porter Jr., who is not exactly known for dishing out sensible takes, had an easy time pinpointing why the Lakers' championship hopes next season are unrealistic.

In a recent exchange, content creator N3on read the Lakers roster out loud to Porter, who responded by saying that he does not like their lineup, adding that while it may be solid, he does not see the team winning the championship.

Fans have been calling out Porter for his take, noting that it was an ironic claim from someone who just said that the Nets are going to win more than 50 games next season.

Still, there is credence to what Porter said about the Lakers. Their roster is flawed, especially on the defensive end. While they have an MVP candidate in Luka Doncic and a fringe All-Star in Austin Reaves, they simply do not have enough on paper to compete with the likes of San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Denver and Minnesota out West.

L.A.'s personnel is especially vulnerable to athletic teams, and if there is one thing which current contenders have in common, it is athleticism. The fact that they lost one of the best closers in the league and the person who carried them in the postseason in James also runs counter to their ambitious goal.

As such, Porter Jr. is correct in his assessment. Lakers fans may not like it, but their delusion badly needed this kind of reality check.
