Mike Budenholzer Makes Bold Devin Booker Statement After Setting Franchise Record

The Phoenix Suns dropped their second consecutive game to the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night, but Devin Booker did set a franchise record.

Booker led the way for Phoenix, scoring 34 points. While it was not enough for the Suns to take down the Trail Blazers, Booker did become the Suns’ all-time leading scorer with 15,666 points.

Of course, Booker surpassed Suns legend Walter Davis who held the record for almost 39 years. Booker also set the record in 124 less games than Davis.

After the game, Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer made a bold comment regarding Booker becoming the Suns’ leading scorer.

“One of the greats, maybe the all-time great Phoenix Sun,” Budenholzer said.

While this is a bold statement from Budenholzer, he has a point. With Booker now alone at the top of the Suns’ all-time scoring list, he has etched himself into franchise history as one of their greatest players ever.

Of course, Phoenix has had many great players suit up for the franchise including Charles Barkley, Davis and Steve Nash, but Booker has cemented himself as possibly the greatest Suns’ player of all time.

After being selected 13th overall by Phoenix in 2015, Booker has become one of the best shooting guards in the NBA. He is a four-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection. The 28-year-old also led Phoenix to their first NBA Finals appearance since 1992-93 in 2020-21 and although they lost the Finals to the Milwaukee Bucks, it was still an impressive showing.

While Booker may not be the greatest Suns’ player ever just yet, he still has a ton of seasons left in his career and he is well on his way to holding that title, especially if he can bring a championship to the city of Phoenix.
