The Milwaukee Bucks are entering a pivotal offseason after yet another second-round exit. Besides dealing with the incessant trade rumors about Giannis Antetokounmpo, they also have to deal with the potential departure of some of their players.
One of them is long-time center Brook Lopez, who will hit unrestricted free agency after earning $23 million this year. According to NBA analyst Jake Weinbach, the “Splash Mountain” will likely no longer wear the Milwaukee Bucks uniform next season.
“Brook Lopez and the Bucks will most likely part ways this offseason after seven meaningful years together,” Weinbach posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“Lopez, a pending free agent, would conclude his incredible tenure in Milwaukee with 545 total games, 75 playoff starts, two All-Defensive seasons, and an NBA Championship,” he added.
Milwaukee Bucks reporter Eric Nehm is also unsure if the team will re-sign Brook Lopez this summer, as doing so would make them a luxury tax team. Even if Lopez leaves Milwaukee, Nehm believes the 37-year-old center can still contribute to an NBA team.
“Also, while I don’t see Lopez commanding the same market he did two offseasons ago when the Bucks brought him back on a two-year, $48 million contract, it is incredible how rare his skill set remains throughout the NBA. Last season, Lopez averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game while knocking down 37.3 percent from 3 in 80 games for the Bucks,” Nehm explained in his mailbag article.
“There are simply not many players who can both knock down 3s and block shots, so there will be teams that are interested in adding Lopez to their roster,” he added.
