The off-season has been busy for Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst. Not long after signing Brook Lopez, Khris Middleton, and Jae Crowder, he also added Brook’s twin brother, Robin, to bolster the team’s frontline. Horst recently explained the decision to add the 15-year-veteran, saying Robin brings a lot to the table, which can help the Bucks on their quest to dominate the NBA once again
While one cannot deny the novelty of having twin brothers on the same team, Robin is more than just Brook’s brother. He brings defensive versatility and savvy to the Bucks, which will certainly help them next season.
“Not because he’s a twin, but because he’s big and he’s talented and can score the ball around the rim, sets great screens, and he’s an incredible teammate. Robin gives us the opportunity to play in a very similar way, if Bobby’s not playing some night, or if Brook’s not playing some night or Giannis isn’t playing some night,” Horst said.
The Bucks know all too well how just one injury can derail a team’s title hopes. After all, it wasn’t too long ago that Giannis suffered a back injury that kept him out of two games in the first round. Although he eventually returned for the series’ last two games, he clearly wasn’t 100 percent. Having Robin on the team provides Adrian Griffin with some insurance in case Brook or Bobby Portis has to sit out for an extended period.
“I think we play so many games over the course of the season — and it’s also cumulative over all these years — that every time you get a chance to get a little relief, to get a little break, but still be the same, or be as similar as possible, I think it’s super helpful,” Horst explained.
