The Milwaukee Bucks were interested in trading for Miami Heat small forward Andrew Wiggins, according to NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.
The Bucks and Heat couldn’t get a deal done.
“This offseason, the Miami Heat were willing to discuss trade scenarios involving Andrew Wiggins, and several teams expressed interest in the former NBA champion and All-Star wing, sources said,” Siegel wrote. “The Milwaukee Bucks, league sources said, were one of the teams to inquire about Wiggins.
“While the Heat ultimately kept the former first overall pick, they were willing to deal Wiggins if they received an instant impact player, along with an upcoming first-round pick before 2028.”
Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra confirmed that Wiggins will be on the team to begin next season while speaking to Miami reporters in Las Vegas at Summer League. The Heat acquired Wiggins from the Golden State Warriors in the Jimmy Butler trade last season.
“I think there’s still real opportunity for growth with him as he gets comfortable with us,” Spoelstra said about Wiggins. “He’s already down in Miami right now and will be bringing his family in. He’s going to be here most of August and September, I think just to get more acclimated. And I think that’s really important for him.”
The Cleveland Cavaliers swept Wiggins and the Heat in the first round of the 2025 playoffs, while the Bucks lost to the Indiana Pacers in the first round in five games.
Bucks general manager Jon Horst was very busy this offseason. He waived and stretched Damian Lillard, signed Myles Turner and Gary Harris and re-signed Bobby Portis, Kevin Porter Jr., Gary Trent Jr., Taurean Prince and Jericho Sims.
The Heat have been active this offseason as well. They traded Kyle Anderson and Kevin Love to the Utah Jazz, acquired Norman Powell from the Los Angeles Clippers, traded Duncan Robinson to the Detroit Pistons for Simone Fontecchio and re-signed Davion Mitchell.
Wiggins will make $28.2 million next season. He has a player option worth $30.2 million for the 2026-27 season.
The first pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Wiggins put up 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game with the Warriors and Heat last season while shooting 44.8% from the field, 37.4% from 3 and 76.3% from the free-throw line.
The 30-year-old Wiggins has played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Warriors and Heat. He has career averages of 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
A Kansas product, Wiggins won the 2014-15 Rookie of the Year Award with the Timberwolves and the 2022 championship with the Warriors. He made his lone All-Star team in 2022 with Golden State.
