The Minnesota Timberwolves are thriving with Anthony Edwards leading the charge. He’s quickly establishing himself as one of the superstars that will lead the NBA to greater heights.
While he’s doing everything he can to help the Timberwolves win their first NBA title, he’s also declared his interest to play in the Olympics. He might have enjoyed his time with the national team that he wants to be given the right to participate in the games.
Trusted NBA insider Shams Charania talked about Edwards as a star and his potential inclusion in the USA team to win the men’s basketball event in the 2024 Paris Olympics. He claims that the Minnesota Timberwolves star is adamant about joining the team.
Per Will Tzavaras of Canis Hoopus:
NBA Insider Shams Charania discussed Edwards and his consideration for the Olympic roster on FanDuel’s flagship NBA show, Run It Back. In the segment on Edwards, Charania states that Edwards is “someone who’s been described to me as a guy that will be on the 2024 USA Basketball Olympic team in Paris,” and that Edwards wants to “fully go and compete to start on this team.”
Charania continues to discuss Edwards being someone who views himself as someone that is going to bring a level of competitiveness to the Olympic roster. While nothing has officially been announced or confirmed yet, rumors have swirled that this Olympic roster could potentially include LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid, Devin Booker, and Jrue Holiday.
Team USA would love to have Edwards on the team. He was the team’s centerpiece during the 2023 FIBA World Cup, finishing the tournament with 18.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and a 16.8 player efficiency rating.
With Paris still a couple of months away, Edwards is focusing on helping his Timberwolves make it out of the Western Conference.
He’s doing a great job as the team’s primary option, with 26.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists to his name already this season. His 47%/37%/84% shooting clip is also impressive with the volume of shots he’s attempting.
With the way he’s playing, it shouldn’t be strange to expect the Timberwolves to make a decent account of themselves come playoff time.
