The Minnesota Timberwolves are heading into Game 4 on Monday down 2-1 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. On Saturday, they had a great blowout 143-101 victory for Game 3. Though they stopped the Thunder’s momentum, it’s still not enough since Oklahoma still has the advantage. On Sunday, former NBA star Charles Barkley had something to say about the Wolves’ postseason fate.
On Saturday, the Timberwolves slowed down Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on offense. The three-time All-Star had a lowly 14 points on 30.8 percent shooting from the field. Even his co-star, Jalen Williams, had trouble scoring the basketball as he ended with 13 points on 3-for-9 shooting.
Minnesota took the chance and capitalized on the Knicks’ struggles. Anthony Edwards had 30 points on a very efficient 12-for-17 shooting. Even Julius Randle, who only had six points in Game 2, had a bounce-back performance. Randle had 24 points on 60 percent shooting from the field.
Heading into Game 4, former NBA star Charles Barkley talked about the pressure on the Minnesota Timberwolves. On Sunday’s coverage of TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” Barkley said that the Wolves are done if they don’t tie the series on Monday.
“All the pressure’s still on Minnesota, tomorrow’s a must-win for Minnesota,” Barkley said. “It’s not a must-win for OKC. All Minnesota did was get kinda back in the series… they extended it. Now, they have to win tomorrow… if they don’t win tomorrow, they’ll be done [in] Game 5.”
Although they won in Game 3, Edwards is still not convinced the Wolves are back in the series. Before ending his postgame interview, the All-Star guard dropped a straightforward statement.
“No,” Edwards said about whether they’re back in the series. “We’re still down. It’s just one win. Can’t get too high on it. Don’t get too low. Just got to try to win another one, man. This team, they’re the best team in the NBA.”
There’s no denying that Edwards is the leader for the Minnesota Timberwolves. In these playoffs, his leadership has been obvious on the court. However, his authority off the court has also been significant for his teammates.
Randle spoke about Edwards’ impact on the media after their Game 3 win.
“I think he’s just very in tune with his teammates and what’s going on,” Randle said of Edwards. “As great of a player Ant is and what he does, especially on a night-to-night basis, he’s like the definition of selfless. … Just shortly after (Game 2), he knows I’m hot, I’m upset, not just because we lost, but I want to play well, and I felt like I didn’t help my team out at all.”
With the NBA title on their sights, Edwards and the Wolves are determined to beat the best team in the West to make it to the Finals.
