The Minnesota Timberwolves hosted the Golden State Warriors in Game 5 of the NBA Western Conference Semifinals on Wednesday. The Timberwolves advanced to the NBA Western Conference Finals with a 121-110 win over the Warriors at the Target Center. Minnesota won the series 4-1.
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ injury report was clean. The Timberwolves sported their Icon Edition jerseys. The Timberwolves starting lineup featured Mike Conley, Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert.
The Golden State Warriors ruled out Stephen Curry with a left hamstring strain. The Warriors are targeting Game 6 as the earliest window for Curry to return, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. The Warriors’ starting lineup featured Brandin Podziemski, Buddy Hield, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green and Trayce Jackson-Davis.
The first quarter opened with fast starts from both teams. The momentum remained consistent on both ends of the court. The Timberwolves led 30-23 after the first quarter. The second quarter showed that turnovers were a significant issue on both ends of the court. Edwards became the sixth player in NBA history to score 1,000 playoff points before the age of 24. The Timberwolves took a 62-47 lead into halftime.
The third quarter witnessed the Timberwolves’ fast start. The Warriors’ offense picked up the pace but failed to keep up with the Timberwolves’ offense. The Timberwolves led 93-72 after three quarters. The fourth quarter saw the Warriors’ 5-0 run in the first two minutes. The Warriors’ offense came alive, but Anthony Edwards came through with a clutch 3-pointer. The Timberwolves won 121-110 in regulation.
Julius Randle led the Minnesota Timberwolves with 29 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Edwards followed with 22 points, seven rebounds and 12 assists. Gobert added 17 points and eight rebounds. Conley had 16 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Donte DiVincenzo scored 13 points, two rebounds and six assists.
Podziemski led the Golden State Warriors with 28 points, six rebounds and four assists. Jonathan Kuminga followed with 26 points and three rebounds. Butler III added 17 points, six rebounds and six assists. Moses Moody had 12 points, one rebound and two assists. Green scored 10 points, six rebounds and six assists.
The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Golden State Warriors 117-110 in Game 4 at the Chase Center on Monday. Randle led the Timberwolves with 31 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Kuminga led the Warriors with 23 points and one assist. Minnesota took a 3-1 series lead.
