The Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors had their game postponed Saturday in wake of a shooting involving federal agents in the city. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the game would be rescheduled to 5:30 p.m. ET in Minneapolis.
“The Timberwolves-Warriors game in Minneapolis has been postponed by the NBA, sources tell ESPN, in wake of a man shot and killed Saturday in a confrontation with federal agents in the city,” Charania wrote on Twitter/X. “It’s the second shooting there in a week, third this month, involving a federal officer.”
Federal Border Patrol agents (ICE), reportedly fatally shot a Minneapolis man Saturday morning, according to numerous reports. Authorities said the man who was shot was armed, had a legal permit to carry, is a U.S. citizen and lives in Minneapolis.
The Timberwolves and Warriors will be back in action Sunday, barring any other postponements. Coming into the game, Minnesota (27-18) and Golden State (25-21) are No. 7 and 8 in the NBA’s Western Conference. Right now, the Timberwolves and Warriors would be playing in the play-in tournament to start the playoffs.
Amid the Timberwolves game being postponed, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz released a statement. He simply called it chaos.
“Minnesota’s justice system will have the last word on this,” Walz said, via FOX9. “It must have the last word. As I told the White House in no uncertain terms this morning, the federal government cannot be trusted to lead this investigation. The state will handle it.
“We want calm, peace and normalcy back to our lives. They want chaos … We cannot and we will not give them what they want by meeting violence with violence.”
