Minnesota Timberwolves Receive Update on Anthony Edwards’ Potential Return Timeline

For all those Minnesota Timberwolves fans, the question of Anthony Edwards’ availability has now turned into a matter of when, not if.

Sitting handsomely at fifth seed in a contender-laden Western Conference, the Wolves are now looking at a stretch they could not risk losing even a single game.

However, as reports indicate, Minnesota may be getting its biggest boost at the right time, with Edwards trending toward a return on Monday against the Dallas Mavericks.

According to The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski, all signs point to the franchise star being back in action after missing the past six games with right knee inflammation. He has already been cleared for on-court activities and is expected to go through final checks before the game.

But there’s more to this news than just his return as Edwards has appeared in 58 games this season, meaning he must play in all eight remaining contests to reach the 65-game threshold for All-NBA eligibility.

That requirement, however, adds urgency to his return, especially given the level he has played at this year.

The 24-year-old is averaging a career-high 29.5 points along with 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists, establishing himself as one of the league’s top scorers. His absence has been felt, particularly in Minnesota’s recent loss to the Detroit Pistons, despite the odds initially saying otherwise, where the offense struggled to find consistency.

There is also a bigger picture at play. The Timberwolves sit 45-29 and are in a tight race for playoff positioning in the Western Conference. Getting their primary scorer back could significantly impact their push for home-court advantage.

Anthony Edwards to Return Amid Timberwolves Heading Towards Tough First Round Projection

While Anthony Edwards’ expected return could not come at a more important time for the Timberwolves, it also arrives as the team faces a difficult playoff outlook.

The All-Star guard is trending toward a comeback after missing multiple games with a knee issue, giving Minnesota a much-needed boost ahead of the final stretch.

With fewer games remaining, the Timberwolves are contesting a tight Western Conference race that will likely determine a challenging first-round matchup.

Current projections point toward a series against the Denver Nuggets as the most probable outcome. While not guaranteed, the matchup presents clear concerns. Denver has consistently posed problems for Minnesota, largely due to Nikola Jokic’s dominance.

Jokic has averaged nearly a triple-double against the Timberwolves this season, exploiting gaps in their frontcourt defense.

Even with Rudy Gobert anchoring the paint, containing Jokic remains a complex task. And if the Wolves want to handle that with ease, Edwards sitting out does not complete the sentence.
