The Spurs have waived former North Carolina guard RJ Davis, who was on an Exhibit 10 contract, The Spot Up Shot’s Paul Garcia tweets. Davis signed his contract in September as the last player invited to San Antonio’s camp.
Davis signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Lakers last July after going undrafted out of North Carolina and spent his rookie season with the South Bay Lakers, Los Angeles’ G League affiliate. In 49 appearances at the NBAGL level, the 6’0″ guard averaged 18.4 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.8 rebounds in 29.6 minutes per game, posting a strong shooting line of .468/.424/.864. The performance earned him a spot on the G League’s All-Rookie team.
The Austin Spurs acquired his returning rights this summer. He’s now eligible to receive a bonus worth up to $91K on top of his standard G League base salary once he clears waivers and then spends at least 60 days with Austin this season.
