The Pelicans signed and then subsequently waived former Santa Clara big man Johnny O’Neil, tweets Keith Smith of Spotrac.
It’s a familiar series of transactions for the Pelicans, who also signed and waived O’Neil last September in order to gain his G League rights and ensure he’d receive a bonus worth $50K for spending at least 60 days with their NBAGL affiliate.
The Laketown Squadron control O’Neil’s returning rights heading into the 2026/27 season and it appears the plan is to have him return to the club. His Exhibit 10 contract will make him eligible for a bonus worth up to a maximum of $91K on top of his base G League salary.
In 2025/26, O’Neil made 45 appearances for New Orleans’ NBAGL team, averaging 9.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.4 blocks in 25.4 minutes per game, with a shoting line of .406/.367/.688.
