The New York Knicks will be heading into a tough stretch where they will face high-tempo offense on the road against some of the most stick-together teams. Though they are coming from a good winning streak, the latest loss against the Charlotte Hornets has left them looking for answers. However, recently, Mitchell Robinson didn’t hold back after the Knicks saw their seven-game winning streak snapped in a 114-103 loss to the Hornets.
Taking to Instagram postgame, Robinson delivered a blunt assessment of the team’s mindset.
“Don’t matter unless we change our approach we ain’t doing s--- special keep that bulls--- up myself included,” he wrote (screenshot here; warning: viewer discretion advised).
For a team sitting at 48-26, the message reveals a thing or two about the team standards. The Knicks have shown they can win games, but missing out on even one game puts a question mark on their inconsistency, which could hurt them in the playoffs.
During the Charlotte game, New York started well, given their luck of being a healthy roster, with Jalen Brunson scoring 17 in the first quarter. But the game slipped away as the Hornets found rhythm in the second half, led by Kon Knueppel.
Mitchell Robinson’s own numbers, that constituted of a mere 4 points, 6 rebounds, don’t jump out, but his impact has never been about scoring. His value lies in defense, rebounding, and setting the tone physically. That’s exactly why his words carry weight inside the locker room.
The New York Knicks are stacking wins, but the performances haven’t always matched the results. In the middle of that, Mitchell Robinson has quietly become one of their most reliable pieces heading into the playoffs.
Earlier in the month, he grabbed 22 rebounds against the Indiana Pacers, including nine on the offensive glass, in a game the Knicks needed to grind out.
For March alone, he’s averaging over 9.2 rebounds while shooting above 78% from the field. More importantly, his impact goes beyond numbers as he’s creating extra possessions, protecting the rim, and covering defensive gaps, all of that often within the same sequence.
That matters more for this roster than it might seem. With Karl-Anthony Towns offering scoring but inconsistent defense, and Jalen Brunson carrying the offensive load, Mitchell Robinson fills in the areas that don’t show up in headlines.
