The San Antonio Spurs could have up to four picks in the 2025 NBA Draft. They own the rights to their own selection, as well as an unprotected pick from the Atlanta Hawks. On top of that, the Chicago Bulls owe them a pick (top 10 protected), as do the Charlotte Hornets (top 14 protected).
In an absolutely loaded draft class, any selections the Spurs have can be valuable, either as a way to land high-end young talent or as marquee trade chips. A recent mock draft by The Sporting News has the Spurs picking ninth and tenth, with the Bulls' and Hornets' picks failing to convey. With those selections, the Spurs land Egor Demin and Kon Knueppel.
Demin, originally from Russia but playing NCAA ball at BYU, is a jumbo 6-9 point guard. He is an excellent passer and can facilitate the offense with ease and can use his length and size well on defense. Much like Stephon Castle, the shot is a work in progress, but he has all the tools to succeed.
In two games for the Bringham Young Cougars, he is averaging 19 points and nine assists, along with two steals. He is also 6-12 from 3-point range, although that might not be sustainable. If he keeps that up, he might not be on the board for the Spurs at nine.
To make up for Demin's lack of shooting, the Spurs follow that pick with Duke's Kon Knueppel, who is one of the very best shooters in the class of '25. In two games with the Blue Devils, he is also shooting 50 percent on 3-pointers, and that seems like a somewhat realistic number for him to hover around. He is averaging 18.5 points through those two outings.
At 6-6, he can score from pretty much anywhere although he struggles to get above the rim. Still, as a spot-up shooter, there isn't really anyone much better.
If the Spurs manage to snag Demin, expect him to be NBA-ready out of the gate, replacing Chris Paul as the starting point guard for an oversized, physical, and versatile starting five of Victor Wembanyama, Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, Castle, and Demin.
Of course, the Spurs could trade their selections to the highest bidder for a proven player, but expect the talent in the 2025 Draft to be too much to pass up.
