The Detroit Pistons will enter the 2025-26 season with high expectations after their historic turnaround last season.
Of course, the Pistons made the playoffs as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference last season after finishing with the NBA’s worst record the prior two seasons.
Many things led to Detroit’s historic turnaround including new head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, veteran additions in Tobias Harris and Malik Beasley and the continued development of their young players, primarily Cade Cunningham.
While the Pistons shocked the league last season, they did lose some key players in free agency this offseason as both Tim Hardaway Jr. and Dennis Schroder left.
Despite this, Detroit did sign Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson in free agency as they try to compete for a top spot in the East this season.
While the Pistons will look to land a top seed in the East, they could also elect to pull off a trade to add another star to their roster thanks to their abundance of draft capital and young players.
With this in mind, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley recently released a mock trade that has the Pistons landing a star guard from the Miami Heat to pair with Cunningham in the backcourt.
In the trade, the Pistons would send Harris, Ron Holland II and a top-three protected 2027 first-round pick to the Heat in exchange for Tyler Herro.
For Detroit, this would be a tough decision to make as Harris played a key role for them last season and Holland II showed a ton of improvement during the Summer League as he enters his second season in the NBA after being the fifth overall pick in the 2024 draft.
Despite this, adding a great scoring guard in Herro alongside Cunningham in the backcourt would give Detroit one of the best young backcourts in the NBA, especially offensively.
Last season, Herro averaged a career-high 23.9 points to go along with 5.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 0.9 steals per game while shooting 47.2% from the field and 37.5% from three.
The 25-year-old was also named an All-Star for the first time last season as he put together the best season of his career.
Of course, the Heat are in an interesting spot after trading Jimmy Butler last season and if they decide to begin a rebuild, Herro could be on the move which would open the door for Detroit to target him.
While that may be the case, Miami has shown little interest in moving their star guard and Detroit may also not want to move Holland II this soon in his career.
