Mock Trade Has Suns Acquiring Star Center in 3-Team Deal With Cavs, Hornets

It is set to be a busy offseason for the Phoenix Suns as they are expected to make some major changes to their roster as they try to turn their franchise around after back-to-back disappointing seasons.

Of course, most of the talk around the Suns is focused on their star forward Kevin Durant as he is expected to be moved ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft.

While Durant has been the headline for Phoenix entering the offseason, they are also expected to move on Bradley Beal and other pieces of their roster as they look to rebuild around Devin Booker.

One key area that the Suns need to upgrade this offseason is the center position, which was a massive weakness for them during the regular season.

Phoenix did end up making a move with the Charlotte Hornets ahead of the trade deadline to land Nick Richards, but it is clear that they need to add a new starting center as they begin their rebuild.

In a recent mock trade, Sports Illustrated’s Schuyler Callihan has them doing just that in a three-team deal including the Hornets and Cleveland Cavaliers.

In the trade, Callihan has the Suns receiving Mark Williams from Charlotte while the Hornets receive Isaac Okoro and Phoenix’s 2028 first-round pick.

Cody Martin and the Hornets’ No. 33 overall pick in the upcoming draft head to Cleveland in the trade as well.

This would be an interesting move for every team involved but it does make sense, especially for the Suns.

While Williams has dealt with a ton of injuries during his NBA career, which cost him being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers at the trade deadline, he would be a massive upgrade at the center position for Phoenix.

The 23-year-old center is a great inside scorer and rebounder and he would also help improve the Suns’ defense.

Despite this, it would be a major risk for Phoenix due to his long list of injuries, though Williams could be a player, alongside Booker, the team could build around for the future.
