Mock Trade Sends Kings' Keon Ellis to Knicks for $13 Million Guard

While many around the NBA expected the Sacramento Kings to begin a rebuild this offseason, they instead have elected to upgrade their roster and hunt a playoff spot in the loaded Western Conference this season.

For the Kings, they have kept their core of Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine together this summer despite all of them being the subject of trade rumors.

Sacramento also added Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud in the 2025 draft and they landed Dennis Schroder in free agency via a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Pistons to fill the hole at the starting point guard position left by the De’Aaron Fox trade last season.

With these moves, the Kings are hopeful they can make the playoffs in the West next season, though it will be tough for them to do so.

Of course, the Kings could still look at other ways to bolster their roster this offseason, especially their depth at the point guard position.

Kings predicted to trade Keon Ellis to Knicks for Miles McBride

With this in mind, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley recently released a mock trade that has the Kings sending one of their young key players to the New York Knicks in exchange for a young point guard.

In the trade, the Kings would send Keon Ellis to the Knicks for Miles McBride and a top-eight protected 2026 first-round pick.

For the Kings, moving on from Ellis would be a tough decision as he is one of the best defenders on their roster and also improved on the offensive end last season.

Despite this, the Kings have an abundance of shooting guards while they lack true point guard depth behind Schroder, which could cause them to look to move one of their other guards, though it is unlikely they would choose to trade Ellis.

If the Kings were to make this trade, adding McBride would give them a solid option at the backup point guard position, though he is more known for his shooting abilities instead of his playmaking skills.

Last season, the 24-year-old guard averaged 9.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 40.6% from the field and 36.9% from three.

While McBride would improve the Kings offense in their second unit, he still has to improve as a playmaker and defender, which would likely be a reason for Sacramento to not make this trade.

Either way, it would be hard to imagine the Kings trading Ellis this season as they have shown no interest in doing so thus far, though they could end up doing so to add another key player to their roster.
