The Indiana Pacers are looking to keep rolling after taking a commanding 2-0 series lead in their playoff matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Myles Turner played a pivotal role in the Game 2 victory and showed why he deserves a contract extension with the Pacers this summer.
Turner scored 23 points while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range and grabbed eight rebounds. He was also a force on the defensive end, recording a game-high five blocks. Turner provided much-needed production from the center position and enjoys being called upon to deliver in big moments.
“I enjoy being able to have a 2-0 lead and go play at home in front of our fans that, quite frankly, have been there for us all season long. Some call it pressure, and I call it a privilege. It’s a privilege to go and play this time of year, especially at home,” Turner said.
Turner will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and if Indiana wants to remain competitive, bringing him back would be a wise decision. He is the type of stretch big many teams covet, and there will certainly be multiple suitors for his services.
Turner’s presence on offense provides a positive impact for head coach Rick Carlisle’s pace and space offensive system, allowing guards Tyrese Haliburton and Andrew Nembhard to play a free-flowing brand of basketball. He also protects Indiana’s perimeter defenders by being a dominating interior force on the defensive end.
Turner’s value on this Indiana Pacers squad should not be underestimated, and he will be due for a long-term contract extension from Indiana in the coming months.
