Tragedy has struck for Minnesota Timberwolves big man Naz Reid.
28-year-old Toraya Reid, the older sister of Naz, was shot dead on Saturday in an apartment complex shooting in Jackson, N.J. (according to a report by Lauren Musni of NJ.com). Officers reportedly responded to a phone call at around 11 AM on Saturday and found Toraya with multiple gunshot wounds laying near the complex exit.
Shaquille Green, 29, was seen running on New Prospect Road near the complex and was arrested and taken into custody. Green has since been charged with murder and firearm possession in the wake of Toraya’s death. Ocean County officials went on to state that the two were previously in a “dating relationship.”

The 26-year-old Naz is a native of Asbury Park, N.J. and previously starred for Roselle Catholic High School in Roselle, N.J. He then went on to attend college at LSU for one year and later signed with Minnesota as an undrafted free agent in 2019.
Naz has been with the Timberwolves ever since then and has blossomed into close to a household name after winning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2024. Naz averaged 14.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game last season (all career-high numbers) as Minnesota made it to the Western Conference Finals for a second straight year. He has become a major cult hero among NBA fans and also just landed a massive nine-figure contract from the Timberwolves this summer.
